Mediaguide was formed to meet out shareholder's exacting requirements for knowledge of broadcast airplay information to accurately pay songwriters. In order to meet those standards, Mediaguide developed a robust digital fingerprinting technology that would be accurate, fast and efficient even in the harsh broadcast environment where audio quality can fluctuate. The technology doesn't rely on the availability of any meta-data, does not require any modification of the content before release, and does not require any setup by the station being monitored.

In late 2008, Mediaguide acquired the audio watermarking technology of Ishce, Ltd expanding the company’s monitoring portfolio to serve those clients that require the benefits provided by an active monitoring solution.

Digital fingerprinting is a passive content recognition technology that can identify audio or video in online and offline environments. Mediaguide's audio and video fingerprinting technology can be embedded in broadcast head-ends, consumer devices and software applications. It can support asset tracking, community connections, copyright compliance, network quality assurance as well as creating new revenue streams through business intelligence, targeted interactive advertising and commerce.
