What type of information is available in Mediaguide's music services and who can subscribe?
Airplay information service is available to music industry professionals, independent artists and songwriters and any other interested parties.
Please visit the Products page for more information about Mediaguide's MusicMonitor, ArtistMonitor, A&RMonitor and other music information services.
What is the difference between ArtistMonitor and MusicMonitor?
Both ArtistMonitor and MusicMonitor use the same detection information and artist data. The difference is in the level of access to reports.
ArtistMonitor is for independent/DIY artists who are using the information for their own career management while MusicMonitor is for music industry participants who want to monitor releases for more than one artist.
MusicMonitor has the added subscription ability for full access. That is, the ability to see all releases rather than specific ones.
Please see the Products tab for more detailed information on the packages.
Are trial subscriptions to the service available?
Music companies and industry professionals currently servicing music to Mediaguide are eligible for a trial subscription to MusicMonitor. For more information on submitting music to Mediaguide, please see the Submit Music page. For a trial user ID and password, please contact MMSales@mediaguide.com.
There are no free trials for ArtistMonitor.
Why can't I buy ArtistMonitor directly from Mediaguide?
We know that radio airplay is only part of the picture for independent/DIY artists. We wanted to ensure that the product was used in conjunction with complimentary services for the highest value to you. Our partners allow us to stay true to that mission and to focus on simply providing accurate data.
I have contacts in the music industry, can I refer business to Mediaguide?
Yes, we have a referral affiliation program that shares 10% of revenue right off the top with those that bring new customers to MusicMonitor. Our information is valuable to any person or company who wants insight into market exposure for artists. That could include retailers (online and offline), distributors, labels, promoters, booking agents and music supervisors.
For further information please contact us.
Can I be a partner or re-seller for ArtistMonitor?
Yes. Please see our Partners section for examples of the companies who have already made ArtistMonitor a part of their suite of products and services.
Our goal with ArtistMonitor is to ensure the independent/DIY artists have access to the information that will help them manage their own careers efficiently and successfully. We seek out partnerships with companies who share a similar mission and vision.
For further information please contact us.
If I am an ArtistMonitor subscriber, will my plays appear in the A&R and Music Discovery reports and charts available to labels, managers and music supervisors?
Absolutely. Because Mediaguide operates these products from a common backend, all of the plays that are detected by our monitors can be displayed to any user with access. That includes those searching for new artists and those searching for charts and playlists to help their customers discover new music.
Do your reports provide information at the song and album level?
Yes. That is a unique component of our system versus that of our competitors. You have the option in any report to view song or album airplay. We want our system and information to be valuable to as many people as possible across various formats. That requires us to be flexible in our reporting so everyone from radio PDs to retailers selling CDs are served.
A station told me that they are playing my record but I don't see it in the report…what gives?
First, check Stations Monitored to make sure the station is part of our network.
If you feel that we have made an error either in our song/artist data or with a detection please send a message to support@mediaguide.com.
What we have found in our electronic monitoring is that what stations report in their manually created playlists and what actually goes over the air are not always the same. In some cases, playlists are really just indications of the most popular releases at the time or what was scheduled to be aired rather than what is really being broadcast.
Please contact us if you have a discrepancy and we will investigate.
Do you promote music to radio?
No. We are a third-party information provider and do not attempt to influence playlists in any way. We do provide contact information for our college and non-commercial panels (Contact Us for details) but we do not speak to the station personnel about any specific songs or albums.
How do I get set up in your system?
Follow the instructions in the Submit Music section to make sure your song or album gets to us.
Then follow the Purchase instructions from the Products section.

CHARTS
What type of charts do you have?
Please check out our Charts section for a detailed description of our charts, chart capabilities, available formats and genres.
What is a genre chart?
A genre chart is a ranking of songs or albums in one style of music across our entire network (or large sub-section like College/Non-commercial). Unlike panel charts that are based on a pre-selected group of stations, genre charts focus on the song and list its plays regardless of where they occurred.
Do you rank EVERYTHING that is played?
Every piece of music that is active in our detection system is available for charts according to the rules of the chart. If you believe that a song or album should be there, it may mean that we do not have the music in our database. Please contact us at support@mediaguide.com to find out.
To ensure that your music is eligible, please make sure to submit releases to us as you send them to radio. See the Submit Music section for instructions.
Does Mediaguide have a magazine?
No, we do not operate any magazine or e-zine. We do, however, provide charts and other airplay information to both consumer and industry trade websites, newsletters and publications. Please see our Chart Partners for information.
I am a magazine publisher and have a website, can Mediaguide create charts for me?
Yes. You can either submit a request to license and run one of our standard charts or design your own chart that we can create for you. You can design charts by station panel, genre or specialty show. In those cases, the chart will be branded with your name and 'Powered By Mediaguide'.
If you are interested in creating a chart, licensing a chart or receiving other airplay information for use in your publication or product, please contact us.

COVERAGE
Do stations have to actively participate to be a monitored station?
No. Because Mediaguide monitors stations via their on-air broadcast, they do not need to install any special hardware or software to be a monitored station.
Please see the Technology section for further detail on the core technology.
Why don't I see the station I'm looking for even though the market that it's in is listed as being monitored?
Depending on the size of the market, the strength of the station and the locations of our monitors, we may not cover the entire market. Should you have any question about the inclusion of a station please send a message to support@mediaguide.com.
Can I request a station to be monitored?
Yes. Please send any requests to support@mediaguide.com. We cannot promise that it will be monitored but we will look at the possibility.
What are some advantages of Mediaguide technology vs. traditional monitoring?
Please see the Technology - Advantages section of the website for a description of the core technology.
Do you track Internet radio?
Through a partnership with RadioWave Airplay Monitor, we can provide access to Internet play across 4,800 Internat stations. For more information on our combo packages, click here.

TECHNOLOGY
How does Mediaguide know what's playing?
Using its proprietary monitoring technology, Mediaguide "listens" to nearly 2,500 radio and TV stations nationwide, automatically identifying the songs and advertisements being played.
Submitted music is encoded into the monitoring system to create a unique "audio fingerprint" for each song on the release. Songs are identified by comparing the live broadcasts from monitored stations to our database of audio fingerprints. When a matching fingerprint is found, the system notes the time and date that a song was broadcast, as well as the station that aired it.
Please see the Technology - How It Works section for further detail on the core technology.
How does Mediaguide populate its library of audio fingerprints?
We strive to maintain as complete a database of audio fingerprints as possible. To meet this objective, we have a dedicated staff of format specialists whose responsibility is to ensure we have as much of the music getting played as possible. We rely on a combination of new release servicing from record labels, independent promoters, artist managers and independent artists, support from radio stations, outreach through various partners and the licensing of existing digital music libraries.
How do I submit music to Mediaguide?
Please see the Submit Music page for a detailed description of sending music to us in either physical (CD, Vinyl) or digital (MP3, WAV) format.
How does Mediaguide treat plays from syndicated programming?
If a song is broadcast on a monitored station, Mediaguide considers it a "play" regardless of whether it was broadcast during regular or syndicated programming.
